Working Girl - 2015

While working on Monique and the other rolling heads, I was also working start and stop on this big block of old salvaged building pine. While nothing can look as good in wood as Modigliani’s Nude on a Blue Cushion painting (1917), I loosely used it as a model from a black and white paper print out. This type of wood doesn’t lend itself to literal rendering nor do I sculpting.

This was my first use of inset glass doll eyes, and in following the first rolling head Monique, Working Girl is slightly kinetic—she gently rocks.

The table base in descending order is magnolia, hewed oak, poplar, and pigmented black cast concrete
